The expansion of the Norfolk Southern Corporation's training facility has been completed and the now larger facility has opened.
‘Railroad University’, as Norfolk Southern's training center is known, has doubled its classroom space as a result of the two-story expansion. Once a 27,000 square foot facility, it is now 50,000 square feet, and could, as the new building become fully utilized, accommodate 900 students.
Railroad University's need for Print products will likely grow as its enrollment increases, and Stationery printers will be asked to supply more Letterheads, invoices, and Brochures.
Opening in December 1974, Railroad University was the industry's first training facility, and for 40 years it has provided comprehensive training for Norfolk Southern employees. Prior to going on their assigned field locations, engineers, conductors, and track and signal workers pass through the McDonough facility.
The expansion will allow the company to provide enhanced technology-enabled interactive instruction. Simulation training, together with the use of touchscreens and tablets, will give students a more hands-on learning experience before moving on to their assignments in Norfolk Southern's 22-state rail network.
This latest growth by Railroad University comes on the heels of other expansions that added supervisory and management classroom space. In addition to classroom instruction, the learning center also has a practical training area outside. A four-track rail yard, complete with four miles of track and rolling stock, offers students the chance to apply their classroom instruction to a real world operating environment.Get a Free Quote for Letterheads Get a Free Quote for Brochures Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Print
