The city of Norcross has been recognized as a Tree City USA community for the year 2021 for its commitment to excellence in urban forestry. The city has earned this designation for 18 years.
Announcements of such recognitions are often made known throughout a community with poster printing.
The framework for the community management of forestry in cities and towns across the country is provided by Tree City USA. These communities need to meet specific requirements that include planned celebrations for Arbor Day, specific spending levels for urban forestry, a community tree ordinance, and the establishment of a tree department or board.
President of the Arbor Day Foundation, Dan Lambe, said that cities and towns that are designated as a Tree City USA community see many benefits from having trees in the urban landscape year after year. He added that the trees that those in Norcross have planted and cared for will endure so that many in the future will be able to enjoy a better quality of life.
It has been shown that there are many benefits to planting trees in a community in addition to being recognized by this program. Energy consumption is reduced by 25 percent which also reduces general costs for energy and helps to cool a community as well. Trees that are properly placed also increase the value of property from 7 to 20 percent.
