Portman Holdings has plans to build up to 1,400 residential units in addition to commercial spaces and medical offices. This proposal has the potential to become of the largest projects of the developers outside the city limits of Atlanta.
The site is at the corner of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road. Single family homes, town homes, and apartments will comprise residential units. There will be 100,000 square feet of medical office space, and up to 80,000 square feet of commercial spaces.
There are currently three structures on the property. There are two buildings that were erected in the early 1900s and a house with four bedrooms built in 1895. The development plan will include preservation of the historic house.
An affiliate of The Hudgens Co. owns the land. The late developer Scott Hudgens founded the development firm which is best known for building many of the malls in Georgia, ranging from the Gwinnett Place Mall to the Mall of Geogia.
Greg Whitlock, mayor of Duluth, said that Portman is working with Providence Group as its residential partner. He added that:
“Interest from Portman and Providence speaks to the strength of the Duluth market and uniqueness of the site.”
