Duluth implements new trash pickup procedure

Republic Services and the city of Duluth have collaborated on a major upgrade to waste management in the city.

Residents who have been using designated trash bags will now be using rolling carts for the collection of their trash. Rolling carts will also be used for the collection of recyclable items.

The decision of Republic Services to adopt trash collection using carts within the city limits of Duluth was made in response to safety considerations and trends in the industry. Bags are being phased out in the industry and these require two men on trucks which has become a staffing issue along with safety concerns of those riding on the backs of trucks. The benefits of using rolling carts include improved convenience in waste disposal, enhanced recycling capabilities, and increased capacity for larger households.

Such new services and their benefits can be made known thought a city with poster printing.

Republic Services is also implementing a new schedule for collection of trash and recyclables. The company will be moving from a schedule of pick-up from three days a week to five days a week.

Republic Services will also be handling the pickup of bulk items. The cost for this service is $65 for each bulk item with no more than two such items per week. Residents can also have Republic pick up their yard waste for $165 a year.
