Fantasy fans set to converge on Atlanta
Dragon Con, an internationally known convention of science fiction, fantasy, pop culture, and gaming enthusiasts, will return to Atlanta for 28th annual convention this weekend.
Expectations are that over 62,000 people will converge on the downtown Atlanta area for this popular event. Fans are likely to be coming from all 50 states, as well as a few other countries, for the four-day convention. Once here, they will have the opportunity to meet with old favorites, as well as the new rising stars of the comic and literature universe, in addition to television and movie stars of the genres.
This year, the official charity for Dragon Con will be the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Each year, via auctions and charity events, money is raised with Dragon Con matching funds dollar-for-dollar for that year's official charity. The 2013 Dragon Con provided money to three charities totaling more than $87,000; its best year to date.
Another Dragon Con tradition is its blood drive, the Robert A. Heinlein ‘Pay It Forward’. Last year, blood and blood products totaling over 6,000 units were donated.
Dragon Con takes place August 29 through September 1. The Dragon Con parade, Atlanta’s largest, will be held on August 30, a Saturday, beginning at 10:00 am and year’s follow the same course as last year’s parade. Banner printing services are instrumental in letting the public know ahead of time when the parade will be so they can avoid getting caught up in the festivities.
