Bike share program comes to Atlanta

Uber has brought another mode of transportation to Atlanta, with Jump Electric Bikeshare. These electric bikes go up to 20 miles per hour, and electric scooters are available too.

The bikes have reduced prices for lower income residents. Uber allowed 15 minutes of free time during January to promote the new vehicles.

The scheme has the potential to ease congestion in Atlanta by bridging the gap between traditional cars and bikes, said Jen Shepard, General Manager for the Southeast region. The company hopes to reduce individual car ownership and have customers use the bikes for transportation to work or home.

Rebecca Serna, Executive Director of the Atlanta Bike Coalition, added that there is a great potential to increase bike use so that customers can connect more effectively with public transportation.

Uber and the Atlanta Bike Coalition are partners in training people how to bike safely in the city. Atlanta has print shops that design and provide banner printing for programs like this.

The bikes have GPS intelligence and integrated cable locks. Customers can rent bikes by downloading the latest Uber or Jump app.

During 2017, the first electric bike share system was launched by Uber. These types of bikes are easier to rent and park anywhere within the community, as they do not need racks, and Atlanta is one of the first cities in the US to use them.
