Music to the ears for Atlantas historic park

For more than two decades, the Summer Shade Festival has been raising funds for Grant Park in Atlanta.

Presented by the Grant Park Conservatory (GPC), the festival is a late summer weekend celebration of outdoor fun, music, and philanthropy in support of the park. The GPC is dedicated to beautification and upkeep of the more than century-old park through memberships, donations, and fundraising events.

Grant Park is named for railroad engineer Lemuel P. Grant, who gave the city 100 acres of land in 1882. The park opened the following year under the premise that it be used and enjoyed by all, regardless of race, and has been dubbed by the GPC as the “people’s playground.” The Olmsted Brothers landscape company further designed, developed, and expanded the park in 1903.

In addition to the musical entertainment, the festival features food and beverage trucks, craft beer, an artists' market, and a children’s area. The weekend includes the Run for the Park 5km race and a Kids Tot Trot for ages five and under.

Summer Shade attracts a number of generous sponsors in the restaurant and beverage industry, as well as community partners that all contribute to its success. These organizations can benefit by having a good Logo Design created by a local printer.

The festival is August 24 and 25 at Grant Park, 840 Cherokee Ave. SE.
