As Atlanta’s most enduring event, the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day annual parade has a rich history in the city.
First presented in 1858 by the Hibernian Benevolent Society, the parade is now one of the oldest St. Patrick’s parades in the United States. Over the following 100 years, the tradition of holding a small, traditional parade continued, only stopping during the First and Second World Wars. By 1999, it was suggested that the parade could become much larger if numerous Irish groups banded together to form a parade committee.
The coalition formed as Irish Network Atlanta (IN-Atlanta) and the St. Patrick’s celebration grew. Representatives became involved as parade participants, sponsors and on the organizing committee, with a main focus on embracing the city’s diversity. IN-Atlanta not only presents the parade, but also works to educate the public about the positive contributions that historical members of the Irish community have made to the city.
The parade brings people of all backgrounds together on floats and other vehicles, performing as clowns and dancers, in marching bands and drum corps. In planning parades such as this, committees often rely on flyer printing to help highlight their event.
This year's St. Patrick’s Day parade will be held on March 15, 2025 beginning at noon at Peachtree Street and 15th St NE. and is expected to last 90 minutes.
