Winter Park welcomes Christmas season

For the 39th year in a row, Winter Park residents will be treated to the Christmas in the Park celebration next week.

Every year, the Morse Museum gets the holidays underway by lighting up its Tiffany windows. Music will be provided by the Bach Festival Choir and Brass Ensemble, who will perform in concert.

The tradition was begun in 1979 by Jeannette and Hugh McKean, benefactors of the Morse Museum, who wanted to share some of their Tiffany collection with visitors. Today, the event is cosponsored by the city and the museum.

The nine windows are made of leaded glass, and were first designed and made by Tiffany Studios to be installed in the chapel at the Association for the Relief of Respectable Aged Indigent Females. A group of well-to-do New Yorkers started the Association in 1814 as a private charity to support poor, elderly women, many of whom were widows.

Christmas in the Park will take place this year on Thursday, December 7. The windows will be installed during the afternoon and lit at 6:15 pm, with the concert finishing about 8:00 pm. The windows will remain lit until 8:30 pm.

Events like this can be made even more enjoyable if organizers work with a flyer printing company to create a handout describing the windows and their history.
