Winter Park to hold arts festival

The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival will be celebrating its 66th year this weekend.

This is one of the most prestigious and oldest juried fine art shows in the country. It offers $76,500 in cash prizes that include 30 awards of merit, 20 awards of distinction, and 10 awards of excellence. Such events often benefit from poster printing for promotional purposes throughout a city.

The festival requires 12 months of preparation, ranging from interviewing prospective judges and reviewing applications to arranging the floor plan of artist tents that will occupy Central Park.

There are 220 artists in this year’s show and these were selected from over 1,000 applicants from this country and around the world. In addition to the cash awards, artists can be represented in two major collections. One will feature pieces that highlight the history of the festival and will be on display at Winter Park Library, City Hall, and other locations, and is sponsored by the city. The other is The Art of Philanthropy collection sponsored by the Edyth Bush Foundation, which will be at its headquarters on S. Knowles Avenue.

The performing arts will also be part of the festival, in addition to food and beverage vendors, activities for children, and displays by local students.

The festival will take place from this Friday, March 21 through Sunday, March 23.
