Winter Park garden to give lesson on fungi

Mead Botanical Garden, Inc. in Winter Park will be presenting an introductory course on fungi in January.

Find Your Inner Fungi is an educational program where students can discover fascinating facts about mycology. The lesson will be taught by Fungi Jon and will draw attention to the many ways that people interact with fungi.

Topics presented during the course include mushroom identification, fungi ecology, the medicinal potential of mushrooms, and fermented mushroom foods. All attendees will get to bring an oyster mushroom growing experiment home with them after the class.

The Mead Botanical Garden is an outdoor space that was dedicated to Theodore L. Mead in 1940. Mead was a famous horticulturalist who developed new varieties of plants, such as ferns and bromeliads.

The garden is maintained by the City of Winter Park’s Parks and Recreation Department. Other organizations also help clean up the garden, including The Geneva School and Winter Park Rotary. Many activities are held in the garden, like yoga and tai chi sessions. Those in charge of outdoor community programming like this may use printing services to make ads for the event.

The fungi lesson will take place on Sunday, January 9 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Tickets to join the course will be $25 per participant. People interested in the other activities held at the Mead Botanical Garden can visit its website to see upcoming programs.
