Sand Christmas tree reaches double figures

The 10th birthday of the only sand Christmas tree is being celebrated in West Palm Beach.

Sandi, as the tree is named, is 35 feet tall and weighs 700 tons. Keith James, mayor of West Palm Beach, said that Sandi, as part of the Holiday in Paradise celebrations in the city, is a yuletide tradition for families, residents, and passing visitors to the city.

The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach is this year’s community partner for Holiday in Paradise and will be offering several activities throughout the month. Such activities are often promoted throughout a community with banner printing.

There will be music and light shows every night through the end of the month. The show will run from 6:00 to 10:00 pm on the quarter hour. Synchronizing to the shows will be the Centennial Fountain.

Other activities will include TEE-KI time mini golf which will run from 6:00 to 9:00pm on Thursdays through Sundays under the trellises along Clematis Street. The course is nine holes and is $3.00 per person. There will also be holiday movies and story time on the Great Lawn where the tree will tell a story, with a showing of the 2002 film The Santa Clause 2. This event will be next Friday, December 10, and will take place from 6:00 to 10:00pm.
