Tampa airport flying high again

Travel & Leisure Magazine publishes a ‘World's Best Domestic Airports’ list, and Tampa International has won second place for the second year in a row, coming in just behind Portland, Oregon's PDX.

Three airports that did not feature in the top five last year joined Tampa and Portland at the top of the list this year, including fellow Floridian site Orlando International, which came in at number five. Last year, this was down at number 11.

The award is particularly significant for Tampa because it comes from the magazine's readers, who have actually used the facility, rather than from an editorial board or official committee. Readers voted on things like ease of access, airport design, efficiency of the check-in process, flight delays, shopping, and food and drink.

Tampa International has won plenty of kudos recently, including a Routes Award, which is an important recognition for having the best marketing effort anywhere in North and South America.

Airport officials could capitalize on the win by working with brochure printers to create a booklet to place in racks in the airport. The brochure could feature color photos of the shops and restaurants, as well as a map of the concourse and gates for visitors' convenience. They could also make more extensive Brochures available to airlines thinking of buying gate space at Tampa.
