Tampa Electric will be hosting its 10th Annual Incredible Duck Race this weekend.
More than 12,000 rubber ducks will be dumped into the Hillsborough River and will float down a designated lane to a finish line where the "adopter" of the first duck to cross the line will receive $5,000, the second $1,000, and the third $500. Additional prizes will go to those crossing the finish line up to 10th place.
Lucky ducks cost $5 each, or deals of $20 for five ducks, $50 for 12, or $100 for 25 may be purchased at TampDuckRace.com. Should owners of victorious ducks not be in attendance, they will be notified of their success.
The race is a community fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club of Tampa Charitable Foundation in its mission to support local children's programs including immunization events, scholarships, StoryWalk installations, holiday gift programs, and college, high school, and middle school leaderships clubs.
The park will also have music, activities, and food available for purchase. Organizers of events like this often use images of ducks on all their paper products, as well as on any banner printing.
The 10th Annual Incredible Duck Race, part of the Beer Bourbon BBQ Festival, is scheduled for this Saturday, April 18 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 628 N Ashley Drive.
