The city of Orlando is planning a tree lighting ceremony in December to celebrate the holiday season.
Visitors and residents of Orlando and Central Florida are invited by Buddy Dyer, mayor of Orlando, to help count down to the lighting of the Christmas tree of the city at Washington Plaza at Lake Eola Park. In addition to the tree lighting, there will be trucks offering food for purchase, a holiday market on the International Plaza within Lake Eola Park, and performances at the Walt Disney Amphitheater.
There will also be a downtown holiday market, which is new this year. It will run every weekend in December through Saturday, December 23. There will be over 30 vendors, visits with Santa Claus, and hopefully a bit of snow.
Such special events are often promoted throughout a city and surrounding communities with poster printing.
Those wishing to attend the tree lighting are encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation such as carpooling, SunRail, Ride Share, bike share, and the free downtown Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service.
The Tree Lighting will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Friday December 1. There will be performances from 5:30pm to 6:00pm, a stage show featuring WKMG News 6 and the Orlando Concert Band beginning at 7:00pm, and the countdown to the lighting of the tree at 8:00pm. The event is set to end at 9:00pm.
