College in Orlando updates name of student services office

The First Year Experience at the University of Central Florida in Orlando is to be renamed the Office of New Student and Family Programs (NSFP).

This office plays an important role in supporting and welcoming first-year students and their families to the university. The new name reflects the expanded mission of the office to not only help new students get accustomed to life at the university, but to engage supporters and families as essential to the success of these students.

The NSFP will be the place for orientation for new students and transitioning for transfer students; initiatives for engagement by caregivers and families; and for resources that will help students to be successful after their first year.

The vice president for Student Success and Well-Being, Adrienne Frame, said that family programming, initiatives for student transfers, and orientation extend beyond the first year. She added that the new name better expresses the wide range of services that can be expected by families and students and aligns with how the office describes its work both at the university and across the country.

In the upcoming weeks, staff, faculty, and students will see the new name on the website, signage, and other materials. Such name changes also offer an ideal opportunity for local print shops to create flyers, brochures, and other printed materials that reflect the update.
