Unique sporting event returns to Ocoee

The Big Orange Invitational Games for the Physically Challenged are returning to Ocoee next week. The games are a presentation of the City of Ocoee Parks and Recreation Department.

The event is open to physically challenged youth and adults, including those affected by conditions such as spinal lesions, cerebral palsy, autism, amputations, and blindness. All sorts of track and field events are offered, and participants can choose to take part in a maximum of five of them. The sports featured in the games include the club throw, shot put, discus, softball throw, slalom, long jump, and dashes ranging from 60 to 100 yards.

The games will start with opening ceremonies that will honor all of the athletes taking part. Last year's games attracted more than 40 participants between the ages of 5 and 25. The top-three finishers in each event will win gold, silver, bronze medals.

Ocoee banner printing companies are often asked to provide material to events such as these to fulfil roles like providing finishing lines and highlighting the event throughout the community.

The Big Orange Games will take place at Ocoee High School on April 26 beginning at 8:45 am. Those wishing to compete in the games must register before April 21. Contact the City of Ocoee Parks and Recreation Department at 407-905-3180 for more info.
