Ocoee neighbor initiates renewal effort

Grant funding is often used to assist renovation efforts. A local community is benefiting from such funding and will witness renewal of a cherished neighborhood.

The city of Winter Garden has initiated an ambitious plan to update its East Winter Garden neighborhood in two phases. The first involves Dyson Plaza and is only the first of several structures to receive structural and cosmetic improvements. The formerly three-unit commercial strip has been converted to two spaces, with one allowing expansion space to accommodate a restaurant. Improvements include paved parking, an outdoor seating area for dining, and landscaping. With work almost complete on the Dyson project, planners are looking forward to the next phase of work in the community.

That second phase is the Legacy Home Rehabilitation Pilot Program, intended to provide needed updates for many homes in the community. Four homes will receive upgrades initially, with 15 to 20 homes scheduled annually for such updates. Funding will provide up to $50,000 for each approved home’s repairs. Project officials plan to use lessons learned from the initial renovations to inform future work on community homes. Business Cards ease communication between clients and contractors.

The initiative is a joint effort by the Community Redevelopment Agency and Rebuild Together Greater Florida, which serves as administrator and program contractor. Both are Winter Garden city agencies.
