Families can get free meals for their children enrolled in Ocoee Middle School, Windermere High School, and HighPoint Church.
According to Orange County, seven new schools have adopted the Grab-and-Go program to provide breakfast and lunch to students who cannot buy food at cafeterias due to the COVID lockdown. This program ensures that students receive free meals throughout the school year.
The meals are funded by the Florida Department of Agriculture and are prepared for children under 18. Their mission is to supply every child with a healthy meal, regardless of where they live or whether they are eligible for reduced-cost meals. These drive-thru services had faculty members hand out packaged meals to parents and children who waited in line.
Grab-and-Go sites were added to the schools after increasing demand from families who were on free meal plans. On weekdays, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, children could pick up a warm meal at school before heading to class. The area superintendent made sure to build these drive-thrus in less busy areas to avoid causing accidents.
The total number of schools that give out free meals is 56 so far. The director of Food and Nutrition Services, Lora Gilbert, confirmed that 68% of students could qualify for pick up lunches. Many public schools will be serving food during the quarantine. Public schools can use Print shops to advertise their charity events.
