Ocoee teens invited to learn about law enforcement

Young people in Ocoee who have an interest in law enforcement, civics or who are simply looking for a summer activity are welcome to apply to take part in this year’s Ocoee Police Department’s Teen Citizen Police Academy.

A variety of

topics will be covered during the four days of the event. These cover a wide range of police work, including crime scene investigation, criminal investigation, mounted patrol, traffic, dive team, K-9, SWAT, police equipment, violent intruder training and an introduction to the department’s helicopter services. Much of the instruction will be offered using hands-on teaching techniques. Stationery printers can produce a range of handouts and other educational materials that can be used during programs such as this.

Those teens who wish to become involved must meet certain requirements to do so. They must be between the ages of 13 and 18, have no felony or certain misdemeanor convictions, and they must have access to transportation both to and from the workshops. There may also be other applicable restrictions.

A registration form for anyone who is interested in signing up for the Teen Citizen Police Academy, which will run from July 18th to July 22nd at High Point Church, can be found on the city of Ocoee’s website. More information can be obtained by contacting Officer Patera Scott at Patera.Scott@ocoee.org or by calling (407)905-3160.
