Ocoee will once again be hosting the Big Orange Invitational, and the public is invited to either participate or cheer on the athletes.
The event, which is sponsored by Ocoee Parks and Recreation Department, will give physically challenged children and adults an opportunity to show off their athletic skills while they engage in friendly competition. In past years, participants were blind, had spinal lesions, cerebral palsy, autism, les autres, or were amputees. Staff, volunteers, friends, family, and fans were there to lend their support, and this coming year will see this repeated.
There will be several different track and field events open for those who take part, including sprints, discus, shotput, and long jump. At the end of the day, bronze, silver, and gold medals will be awarded.
According to the organizers, this is intended to be a fun day where the spotlight will be on the athlete’s abilities and not their physical challenges. Those who plan an event like this can use the services of a printer to supply them with customized awards and ad specialties to help promote the activity in the surrounding communities.
The Big Orange Invitational will be held on April 29 at Ocoee High School. Registration will begin at 8:45 am, and the opening ceremonies will begin at 9:15 am. More information and a link to sign up to participate are both available on the Ocoee website.
