New Port Richey is planning a special upcoming event in celebration of Arbor Day this month.
Arbor Day will be celebrated later this month in through a partnership of the city, Keep Pasco Beautiful, Genesis School, New Port Richey FarmNet, and the Environmental Committee of New Port Richey.
The celebration will include the planting of an oak tree at Frances Avenue Park. There will also be a brief program with the Arbor Day Proclamation, a special performance by students from Genesis School, and a presentation on the cultural context of urban forests.
Residents of a community are often made aware of such special events through poster printing methods by event organizers.
New Port Richey has been celebrating Arbor Day since 1886. This celebration every year highlights the key role that trees play in environmental conservation, while also focusing on the many benefits offered by trees for the city and the community. Matt Murphy, Deputy Mayor, said that each tree planted helps to shelter the ecosystem, mitigate the impacts of stormwater runoff, and purify the air. He added that Arbor Day reflects the dedication of the community to investment in the future and wellbeing of the city.
New Port Richey is recognized as a Tree City USA and has planted over 370 trees through various efforts over the years, including ceremonies like this and its Adopt-a-Tree program.
The Arbor Day Celebration will take place at Frances Avenue Park from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on Friday, January 19.
