Major highway project planned for New Port Ritchey area

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is working on a plan to create an overpass to relieve the congestion at US 41 and State Road 54 in Land O’ Lakes. This is likely to be of interest to those in New Port Ritchey who commute in this area in central Pasco County.

The cost of this project is expected to be $516 million with an overpass being the best solution determined.

The overpass would run on State Road 54 in an east-west direction and cross over US 41. There will be four lanes with an inside shoulder of six feet and an outside shoulder of 10 feet in each direction with a traffic barrier separating each direction. Included in this project will be the bridges over the entrance to Lowe’s, the Village Lakes Shopping Center, and the U.S. 41/CSX railroad.

US 41 will still be a highway with six lanes. A bike lane of seven feet will be added in each direction with a sidewalk of six feet on the northbound side and a sidewalk of 10 feet on the southbound side.

More details about such planned projects and their impact in an area can be provided with flyer printing.

The project is currently being designed, and this will last until the end of 2027. The FDOT will acquire the land needed between 2028 and 2030.
