This March will see the premiere of a new, original musical set amidst the Cuban Revolution and its aftermath.
The Miramar show, entitled “Always Remember”, is written by Cuban-American Marilyn Morales and has been in the works for multiple years. It will be a full musical with an “epic” scope, telling the story of a family separated by forces beyond their control. Morales is known as a dual pianist, and created many of the songs alongside her partner Kirk Whipple. Early exhibitions of the musical numbers at the GFWC Coral Gables Women’s Club last year met with positive response.
Always Remember is a production of Fire Haus Projects, a local arts nonprofit run by Lila Fontana, who also serves as visual arts director for the show. While a musical is a large undertaking, involving dance and set design, local theatre can produce unique and artistically striking visions, often drawing on the local community such as antique stores for set decoration and Print shops for program printing services.
With shows that premiere on small stages often going on to big things, theater buffs might want tonote that “Always Remember” will premiere on March 26 at the Miramar Cultural Centre and run until March 29. Stars include Jorge Rodirguez, Mauricio Villanueva Espinosa, and Marinel Cruz. Smaller roles were filled through an open audition this February.
