Miramar Labor Day festival to feature rap legends

This Labor Day weekend, Miramar will be home to the two-day Waffle and Yankee Fitted Fest, featuring performances by some of rap’s biggest names.

The Fest will be headlined by Nas, whose debut album Illmatic is often cited as one of the greatest hip-hop records ever; Ludacris, who is credited with popularizing the “Dirty South” style of rap as well as being successful as an actor; 2000s hitmaker Fabolous; and the CeeLo Green-fronted group Goodie Mob. The pair of concerts is designed to represent a coming together of the Dirty South and East Coast schools of rap, while providing a memorable experience for old-school hip-hop fans. Promotional materials link this hybrid nature to the festival’s unusual name:

“Waffle combines the mouthwatering reputation of the food which is synonymous with the South’s southern hospitality alongside their smooth flows and 808s. Yankee Fitted embodies the swagger of the North and their Empire state of mind with their lyrical geniuses and vibrant, cocky lifestyle. “

The festival will be hosted by actor and comedian Faizon Love. Festivals like these typically advertise locally through means like poster printing and local radio promotion, and along these lines, the Waffle & Yankee Fitted Fest has partnered with local radio station X102.3. The concert will be one of Nas’s first since the beginning of COVID-19 restrictions 18 months ago.

The Waffle & Yankee Fitted Fest will take place on September 4 and 5 at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater.
