Miramar guinea pig saved from house fire

A guinea pig from Miramar was recently saved when a house fire broke out when he was home alone.

Neighbors contacted fire officials after spotting smoke coming from the front door of a home. The fire department extinguished the fire and searched the home to see if anyone was in need of help. No human residents were at home at the time but they did discover the fluffy rodent. The little mammal was brought outside where he was given oxygen through a tiny oxygen mask they keep on hand for the smallest smoke inhalation victims. The guinea pig recovered quickly and no further medical care was needed.

This story ended happily thanks to the quick response of neighbors and fire fighters. Many pets are not as lucky. It is impossible for pet owners to always be at the side of their pet. To increase their safety, and the likelihood of them being found soon enough in this type of scenario, there are steps people can take.

Window and door stickers alerting people to the presence of animals in the home will help firefighters to immediately know when a life is at risk. Custom printed stickers with photos of the animals can make it even easier for the team to know what to expect inside. Add these Signs to the front door for wandering pets and directly to the windows of rooms where caged animals normally reside. It will not save all lives, but it does increase their chance of rescue.
