The annual Jamaican Independence Festival, sponsored and organized by the City of Miramar, takes place in just a few weeks’ time.
People do not need to be from the Caribbean to come to Miramar and enjoy the festivities during the Jamaican Independence Day celebration. On August 6th, 1962, Jamaica gained its independence from the United Kingdom. The day is a national holiday for Jamaica, and the culturally diverse city of Miramar wants to help its citizens originally from the island or with family connections to Jamaica have a place to celebrate.
The event is open to all community members, visitors to the area, and anyone that wants to have some fun. The organizers expect the event to be similar to last year’s festivities with plenty of live music, activities for kids and vendors offering food and relevant gift and Promotional Products. The Miramar Parks and Recreation website will have a more detailed list of the event and the activities taking place as soon as they complete the processing and approval of all vendor applications.
There is no admission charge for this family-friendly event, which will take place on August 4 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The festivities will be held at the Shirley Branca Bandshell located at 6900 Miramar Parkway in Miramar. Anyone with questions can call 954-602-3178 for more information.
