Long-awaited book festival comes to South Florida

The Miami Book Fair International is coming later this month, and those from Miramar and other communities in South Florida will want to attend this event which is now in its 32nd year.

The Fair opens with many author events, one of which features Patti Smith, a writer of poetic rock and roll for over 35 years. Readings and discussions with noted authors from the United States, such as Jane Smiley, Robert B. Reich and Tom Brokaw, and from around the world will be held during the six nights of the Fair.

The second weekend of the Fair is the Street Fair, the highlight of which is the Festival of Authors where over 450 authors read and discuss their work. Thousands of children from South Florida will kick off the Street Fair to participate in the activities of Children’s Alley, some of which include readings by authors of children’s Books, arts and crafts and theater.

The fair was founded in 1984 by Miami Dade College and partners in the community. Seventeen years later it became part of the Center for Writing and Literature at the College which is now using flyer printing companies to promote the Fair as part its appreciation and advancement of literature throughout the year.

The Fair opens on Sunday November 15 with the Street Fair taking place the following weekend.
