Film production studio comes to Miami

Commissioners from Miami-Dade County, in which Miramar is located, recently approved a subsidy of $10m for a developer to build the Miami Ocean Studios in county land in Miami Gardens.

The production campus, at a total cost of $265m, will include sound stages, a hotel, and a special tank for filming water scenes.

The project will createa new place to stay in Miami Gardens, bring sconstruction money into the county, and likely boost the relationship between Miami-Dade and large Hollywood productions.

According to Mayor Carlos Gimenez, the subsidy comes from property taxes but would be issued only after the project is up and running as a rebate to the developer, and will only be used for infrastructure improvements. The project is designed to diversify the economy in an area that needs help and to boost the production industry in Florida in general. According to the Miami Herald, the area has not been able to recruit major shows and movies as state production subsidies have dwindled.

Ocean Studios will be a production facility that will be able to use the lush areas of South Florida for exterior shots and the large sound stages for interior filming.

Local Print companies can benefit from this studio as they can Print various materials to announce new productions and to call for locals to participate in the films.
