Reading is a skill that can be difficult for some children, and an initiative is being offered in the Longwood area that will help parents or caregivers learn more about how to encourage and guild their son or daughter to become lovers of the written word.
The Seminole Reading program has been developed to aid children who are having trouble with one or more aspects of reading. It is geared towards those who are in early elementary school, and will help them learn how to recognize letters and the sounds they make, as well as how to use phonics to sound out words and text with fluency.
Those who take part in the training will be asked to commit to working with their son or daughter each night to help them improve and build on their current skills. It is open to adults only, and no childcare will be available during the event. It has been offered to the community courtesy of the UCF Center For Autism and Related Disabilities, and all are welcome to come out and find out about new ways to aid their child in discovering an appreciation of the written word. Booklet printing can be utilized to create customized note pads and other items that can be given out during a seminar such as this.
September 6th has been selected as the date for the workshop, which will take place in the Eastmonte Park Civic Center in Almonte Springs. More information about both the Seminole Reading program and the organizers can be found on its Facebook page.
