Beckman Oral Motor will be holding a two-day workshop in Longwood to teach dentists about strengthening facial muscles.

The Beckman Oral Motor Assessment & Intervention is a program where dentists can learn several intervention tactics to help with addressing issues like tonic bite and sluggish oral transit. The techniques learned at the workshop can help patients with eating and speaking. The course may also discuss topics such as adaptive mealtime utensils, oral function for people with tracheostomies, and diet texture progression. Those who complete the workshop should be able to demonstrate skills in treating mouth-related motor disorders.

Beckman Oral Motor is an organization that offers hands-on lessons about the Beckman Oral Motor Protocol. The technique uses assisted movement and stretch reflexes to help those with individuals with impaired oral motor skills. Debra Beckman has been developing the protocol since 1975 and has presented her findings at local, state, national, and international conferences. She has also published multiple articles and was featured in Exceptional Parent magazine.
