Life-saving organization to host event in Longwood

AdventHealth will organize a race at Lyman High School in Longwood to benefit the OurLegacy organization.

The GR8 to DON8 5K/8K is an event that encourages people to become organ donors to help those in need. This year’s race will celebrate the courage of heart by highlighting stories of how organ donors have saved lives. The fundraising goal for the event is $188,000. There will be two races held at the high school for adults and those who are 17 and younger. People also have the option to participate virtually in the 5K or 8K.

Members of the community can support the event organizers by becoming a volunteer. There are several roles available to assist with, such as preparing goodie Boxes for local organizations, preparing race T-Shirts, and distributing swag Bags to event participants. People may also help with various tasks like unloading vans, stocking beverage barrels, and setting up tables. There will be an unlimited number of spots available for event cheerleaders.

The fundraising race will take place on Saturday, April 1. The Welcome Village at the event will open at 7:00 am, and the races will begin at 8:00 am. Adults may register for $35, and participants who are 17 and younger can pay $30. The virtual race will cost $40 to join. Companies that coordinate athletic fundraisers like this may bring promotional Pens to give out to attendees.
