Each year, organ donations saves many lives, and Longwood residents are invited to join in a run to raise funds and awareness of the importance of being an organ donor.
GR8 to DON8 will see runners and walkers from all over the local area come together in an event that will combine fun and fundraising. Both 8km and 5km races will be available, and there will be an opportunity to honor both those who have received this lifesaving gift and those who have made it possible through their generous donation.
Monies raised through the event will remain in the region, where they will be put to use in education about tissue and organ contributions, and also initiatives such as the construction of a donor memorial at the Orlando Regional Medical Center and a transplant house. The activity has been organized through the efforts of TransLife, the Orlando regional Medical Center, and Florida Hospital. Banners and other Promotional Products can be placed throughout the community to help to ensure that there is a good turnout for an event such as this.
The registration fee to participate starts at $30 for adults and $18 for students, and the option of becoming a virtual runner is also available. It will be held on April 1 at Longwood’s Lyman High School, and additional details can be found on the event’s website.
