The Seminole Education, Restoration and Volunteer (SERV) Program will soon be organizing a canoeing experience in Longwood.
Those interested in learning more about local waterways can attend a guided canoeing trip at Wekiva Island. Guests will be taught how they can benefit Florida’s waterways during the excursion. All attendees are expected to have some prior paddling experience before going on the tour. The activity will be free for all participants, though people are required to reserve their spots in advance. Organizations in charge of tours like this may use printing services to market their trips.
The SERV Program is a project dedicated to restoring the natural areas found in Seminole County while also educating the community with outreach programs. The group accepts volunteers to assist with cleaning the environment. Past events organized by the SERV Program include pond restorations and invasive plant removal sessions. Those who volunteer with the organization can work alongside biologists and earn community service hours.
The canoe tour of the Wekiva River will be held on Friday, February 11 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Those interested in becoming part of the SERV Program can email serv@seminolecountyfl.gov and subscribe to the organization’s newsletter.
