Florida takes the high road next month

The Central Florida Scottish Highland Games are set to take place over two days this January in Winter Springs.

The event will feature archery, and traditional Scottish contests like the caber toss. Pipe and drum performances, Scottish country dancing, and even a Quiddich tournament will be included over the course of the weekend.

Visitors can try the Boulder Boogie, in which they have to carry a large, heavy stone for as far as they can. Clans and societies will be on hand to recruit new members or provide information to those interested in genealogy. Musical entertainment will be provided by Albannach and Rathkeltair. Lastly, vendors will be selling a variety of Scottish and Celtic-related items, such as kilts, handmade jewelry, toys, and food.

Those of Scottish descent will no doubt be particularly keen travel to the games from nearby communities such as Longwood to attend this annual event. Flyer printing and poster printing companies might be asked to help advertise it in the area.

The Central Florida Scottish Highland Games are taking place from January 17 to 18 at Central Winds Park in Winter Springs. Tickets for the Saturday are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate, while Sunday's prices are $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Daily tickets for children between 12 and 17 are $10, and the fee is $5 for children between the ages of 6 and 11.
