The 4th annual Bugfest-by-the-Sea is taking place this July for a week, and is a celebration of the lobster mini-season.
The festival will kick off with a party at the Beach Pavilion. Throughout the week, there will be seminars such as one Catching the Bug, a wreck diving workshop with John Chatterton, a scuba beach diving clinic, and contests for scuba divers. There is also a lobster chef competition, a dive and snorkel trip, a lobster cookout, and a barbecue.
All of this leads up to the Great Florida Bug Hunt. Participants can catch up to 12 lobsters a day and will receive a raffle ticket for each one they register. Prizes to be awarded include a total of $15,000 in cash, diving gear, and other equipment.
It is likely that this competition and festival will attract people from Ft. Lauderdale and the surrounding area. Local Print companies are often asked to provide Flyers and other advertising materials to help spread the word.
Bugfest-by-the-Sea will take place from July 25 to 31 at various venues in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Entry fees for the Great Florida Bug Hunt are $20 per person.
