The Nova Southeastern University and the Guy Harvey Research Institute will present a once-in-a-lifetime experience later this month in Fort Lauderdale.
A special vacation package has been created by the Westin Beach Resort and Spa, at which visitors will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes of the NSU Oceanographic Center and the Guy Harvey Research Institute to learn from experts about shark conservation.
Shark tagging research will be discussed, educating the participants on the process and purpose as well as results. The visitors will board a vessel with the researcher and participate in working with fishing equipment, baiting the hooks, and casting the gear in the sea.
Ideally, a shark will be caught and carefully brought onboard for the attendees to view while the animal is tagged and tissue samples are collected. Photos can be snapped by the guests, and will be taken by the researchers, before the shark is safely be released back into the water.
Printers can work with the guests who have taken photos in placing them in Posters to create a lifetime memory that can be shared with others. Poster printing can be handled by a qualified Print company when given digital photos.
Sharks found in the area include blacktip, blacknose, lemon, Atlantic sharp nose, nurse, bull, great hammerhead, and tiger species. The event is booked for July 25-27, 2014.
