Ft. Lauderdale deep freezes ice cream

The Museum of Science and Discovery in Ft. Lauderdale is getting ready for the Ice Cream Science Weekend.

The event is aimed at delivering cool treats to children and families this summer, while exploring the chemistry and cooking that goes into making everyone’s favorite summertime snack.

The day begins with a demonstration of ice cream making where the process has been sped up a little. Rather than using a traditional freezer to create the icy dessert, liquid nitrogen is being brought in. This ‘nitro ice cream’ will be ready in a flash and then distributed for tasting among the audience. During the demo attendees will also learn the process by which ice cream is made. This will be done in conjunction with a small demo of how to make a calorie-free origami ice cream cone.

Afterwards, up to 30 children will be allowed into an ice cream lab where they will learn how to create their very own personalized ice cream flavors. Of course, they will also get to consume their signature recipes. The event will end with a talk by Kilwins Sweet Shop that will cover the methods by which cocoa beans are turned into delicious chocolate. The talk will end with some delicious Promotional Products guaranteed to impress any sweet tooth.

The Ice Cream Science Weekend will be held on August 20 and 21 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at the Museum of Science and Discovery, located at 401 SW 2nd St. Admission is $15 for adults and $12 for children. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
