Making the switch to civilian life can sometimes be difficult one, but an event that will be held in Fort Lauderdale may just be able to offer vets a helping hand.
The Silkies Hike is intended to bring veterans together to show them that they are not alone. They can build a network of support and camaraderie while they enjoy a hike that might just take them back to their days carrying of a rucksack on their back in the field.
Vets, as well as military members on active duty, reservists, and National Guard members are all welcome to be a part of the event. While they go, the group will be spreading both information and goodwill, and according to its organizers, one of the goals of the activity is to leave the community it goes through a little bit better than when it arrived.
While the event will have serious goals, including raising awareness about PTSD among veterans, it is also meant to be fun and build friendships between the participants. A local Print shop can be called upon to supply materials, including Letterheads and business Forms, which can help to keep a large function like this well-organized.
Irreverent Warriors will be offering its Fort Lauderdale Silkies Hike on February 10, and the staging area will be located at 307 SW 2nd Street. It is free, and the whole community is invited to come out and show their support.
