What's Happening in Cape Coral, FL…

Cape Coral festival dedicated to aiding local wildlife

The upcoming Cape Coral Burrowing Owl Festival will raise funds and awareness for at-risk area wildlife.

Presented by the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife (CCFW), the festival is celebrating its 23rd year. The CCFW is a volunteer non-profit organization created to enhance and preserve area wildlife species and their habitat while educating the community about their important work.

The now 500-member organization was created after major developments along 100 square miles of local waterways destroyed streams, meadows, and wooded areas that were home to many wildlife species. Burrowing owls were drawn to the newly created prairie and thrived, but as the community continued to expand, they, and other wildlife, again became in danger of losing their natural habitats.

The Burrowing Owl Festival will include a vast array of events for the whole family, including guided nature and photography tours, informative talks by wildlife experts and enthusiasts, exhibits by conservation groups and art vendors. Children can participate in activities such as crafts and painting, and enjoy visiting with live animals.

In addition to a $5 entry fee for those 12 and over, the CCFW will also generate funds from both a silent and online auction held in conjunction with the festival.

The Cape Coral Burrowing Owl Festival will be held Saturday, February 22 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in Rotary Park Environmental Center on Rose Garden Road. To advertise special fundraising events such as this, organizers may choose flyer printing to spread the word.
