Washington workshop to offer container growing tips

City dwellers may look at outdoor garden beds with a twinge of envy, but an upcoming workshop will show them how easy it can be to grow fresh produce and other plants, even in the heart of Washington DC itself.

The team at Cultivate the City explained that container gardening is growing in popularity, and it offers an option for those who lack space or time. They can be set up in a variety of locations, and it may be surprisingly easy to grow herbs, vegetables, and even some tree fruits in a pot or other receptacle.

The class will introduce the public to the art of growing in containers, and it may be helpful to first-time growers and established green thumbs alike The use of sub-irrigation will be discussed, and the attendees will find out how it may be used to keep plants hydrated. A materials fee of $10 is being charged, and those who pay a small additional cost will be able to take home an herb and some potting soil so they can get growing right away.

Plants may be welcome additions to many homes, and they help to clean the air and add life and interest. Booklets of horticultural tips and other care advice can be produced for the occasion by area brochure printing companies.

Cultivate the City has made plans to offer this workshop on October 24 at 910 Bladensburg Road. Its scheduled start time is 1:00 pm.
