One of the roles taken on by Washington’s United States Botanical Garden (USBG) is to educate the public, and it has a family-friendly session on the way that should be both informative and entertaining.
Families participating in the “Flower to Fruit: A Pollination Journey” activity will find out how the pollination process happens. It will be hands-on, and the facilitator for the occasion will be USBG Family Education Specialist Lily Anderson.
The drop-in workshop will see its participants explore flowers, including their internal structures. Everyone can dissect a flower and also watch a fruit dissection, finding out how the parts of a flower change to become fruits or other seed receptacles after pollination. Different state flowers, including Washington’s – which is the American Beauty rose – and the fruit that follows them will be reviewed. The session is a component of the Gardens “America’s State Flowers: An America250 Celebration.”
Kids are often fascinated by the natural world and may really enjoy the chance to learn more about it. Materials for a drop-in program such as handouts, promotional Pens, information sheets, and other materials can be ordered from a local printer.
Monday, July 6 will see Washington families find out how flowers become fruit. It will be available from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm in the USBG Conservatory Children’s Garden.
