Washington venue offers orchid repotting demos

In days gone by, orchids were prized plants, often grown in conservatories and greenhouses, but an upcoming event will show they can be easy to care for.

Washington’s United States Botanic Garden (USBG) is home to many orchid species and cultivars in its collections, and its orchid expert will be sharing tips and tricks for successfully repotting these plants. While they have a reputation for being somewhat finicky, transferring them to a new home need not be difficult.

“Look and Learn: Reporting Orchids" will be a drop-in demonstration-style activity led by George Guenthner, who is a USBG gardener. He will be setting up shop in the Conservatory Garden Court, and he will demonstrate some simple techniques that may be helpful for orchidophiles to have in their skillset. The demo will be run several times during the two-hour running time to allow as many people as possible to see it, and no advance registration is needed.

Home horticulturalists may be eager to pick up some new techniques, and a demonstration, class, or workshop can allow them to do so. Organizers may want to order small Promotional Products to distribute, and local Print shops will have a range of options.

The USBG, located at 100 Maryland Avenue SW, will demonstrate orchid repotting methods on Thursday, February 26 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.
