Washington to introduce art of growing microgreens

Microgreens can be both tasty and healthful, and a Washington workshop will show how easy it can be to grow them in the home kitchen.

Plants Alive!, which is located in Silver Spring, has organized a class that will introduce learners to growing miniature vegetables. These are often served as a garnish in restaurants or sold in grocery stores, and they add flavor and color to a dish.

The group will discover how they can start their own indoor garden in a small amount of space using readily available materials. A sunny window or well-lit room will give the sprouts the light they need to germinate, and there will be kits available that can make the practice even easier. People can choose between a ticket for the workshop only, or one that includes a microgreen growing set-up along with some seeds to help the owner get started.

A continuing education activity gives people a chance to enrich their lives by learning something new. A brochure printing company will be able to prepare items that market the activities to the local community, as well as further afield.

This chance to learn how to become a proficient indoor microgreen grower will be on offer on December 4. The venue can be found at 15710 Layhill Road in Silver Spring, and it will run from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.
