Washington kids offered introduction to seed starting

Gardening is a hobby that may be undertaken by people of almost any age and ability level, and youngsters may really enjoy taking a seat for a Washington workshop.

The crew at W.S. Jenks & Son has made arrangements to welcome kids for a class that will teach them some of the basics of growing plants, and it will use an assortment of fun techniques to do so. It will also introduce the participants to topics such as ecology and the important role plants can play in the human and natural world. Tickets start at $18.92, including fees and taxes, and all materials needed for the activity will be included.

Each of the children will be invited to craft a planter using recycled materials, and while assistance will be provided, parents or guardians must accompany their child at all times. Once their dish is ready, they can fill it with soil and plant a seed to take home with them. They will be able to observe how it germinates and grows.

A hands-on project can give kids an opportunity to learn about the value of becoming a citizen scientist. A printer can help by supplying promotional Pens along with Notebooks and log sheets so they can make and record their observations.

This child-friendly introduction to seed starting is scheduled for April 1, starting at 1:00 pm. The venue can be found at 910 Bladensburg Road in Northeast Washington.
