Washington Arboretum to offer course for tree climbers

Working in arboriculture comes with its own set of risks and challenges, and a Washington course will help prepare those who take part to meet them head on.

The horticultural staff members at the US National Arboretum have a wealth of experience when it comes to tree work, and they will be sharing their expertise during the Tree Climbing Workshop scheduled for July. It will be a two-day activity with many topics on the agenda.

The learning opportunity will be led by five instructors, and both lunch and breakfast will be provided. The importance of planning and preparation will be stressed, and everyone will learn how to make full use of their lanyard and other safety gear. Aerial rescues will be practiced, and there will be opportunities to put the techniques taught into practice. The value of logging climbs will also be in the discussion, and continuing education units (CEUs) may be available for those who successfully complete the training.

Many who take part in a workshop appreciate receiving a bound manual or other text, as this will provide them with further information and can be added to their personal reference library. A printing services company can help, and will have a variety of binding options available.

This opportunity for those who work in tree care to help their career climb to new heights will be held on July 6 and 7. It will be on offer at 3501 New York Avenue in Washington.
