Waterbury theater to come alive with the sounds of music

A tour of ‘The Sound of Music’ will make its only stop at the Palace Theater in Waterbury this month. The production is part of the Webster Broadway series and will offer eight performances.

The director of the production is Jack O’Brien, who has won three Tony awards. O’Brien commented that the role of Maria is being played by Charlotte Maltby, the daughter of Richard Maltby, Jr., a well-known writer and director. She replaces the original selection, who was an undergraduate from Pace University. Maltby, according to O’Brien, has a rich and powerful voice and he expects that the audience will be inspired by her performance.

Danny Mefford provided the choreography for the show. The team for design and production includes Douglas Schmidt for set design, Natasha Katz for lighting design, and Ken Travis for sound design, all of whom have either been nominated for or received Tony awards for their work.

The show will run from tonight (March 7) through Sunday, March 12. A four-course pre-fixe dinner catered by Verbena Catering will be served in the Poli Club in the theater before the evening performance on tonight, and after the matinee performance on Sunday. Performance times can be found on the Palace Theater website.

The venue might benefit from the assistance of various marketing services to help promote this singular event to theatre lovers in the community.
