An opportunity to learn a new skill is on the horizon in Waterbury this summer with a nearby forge announcing an instructional workshop.
The Introduction to Pattern-Welded Blades with Jamie Lundell has announced an official date for amateur blacksmiths and Waterbury residents seeking a new hobby or passion, ensuring they can fit the two-day workshop into their plans. Students will work closely with instructor Jamie Lundell, a local blacksmith with years of experience, to learn the steps and techniques that go into crafting pattern-welded blades and tools.
Lundell will demonstrate how to use several tools necessary for the forging process, including the hydroelectric press and power hammers. The end result will allow students to create their own Damascus blades and tools. The process will begin with students combining 1084 steel with 15N20 steel. Print shops can help promote events like this and provide students with high-quality instruction sheets or Booklets that support the learning process.
The welding process will combine the two steel types into one bar, with Lundell demonstrating how to begin shaping that bar into basic culinary knives. They will be heat-treated and polished, and students will get to take them home.
The workshop will be held at 10 Swiss Lane in nearby Wolcott, starting at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 22nd, and continuing the following day. All participants must be 18 or older, and tickets cost $400 per person online.
