A wide variety of art exhibitions is being held this month at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury.
The first exhibit, which runs until December 4, is of the fauvist paintings of Christian Césari. Titled ‘My Big Blue Sun’, all the works are in the color blue and use bold brush strokes and vibrant colors in the French modernist style to create his landscapes, which are often of his home in Woodbury, and his still life paintings.
Also running until December 4 is the work of Pablo Delano from Puerto Rico. His photographs are of the dynamic urban scene centered on a district of San Juan known as Santurce in Puerto Rico. They cover a wide range of themes, from sophisticated murals to wry graffiti, on walls throughout the cities and towns of the island painted by both international and local artists.
Running until February 26 is the large-scale sculpture by Peter Kirkiles of the Bernard pliers hand tool that artist Alexander Calder used most frequently. Multiple documents, photographs, and ephemera were researched by Kirkiles to create the single sculpture and these, along with pictures of other works of Calder, are displayed in the exhibit.
The museum might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to advertise these exhibits to public by means by Flyers and other materials with more detailed descriptions.
