The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) has elected long-time mayor of Waterbury, Neil O’Leary, to be its President for 2018. He was the organization’s first Vice President for 2017.
Among O’Leary’s accomplishments and successes in Waterbury are economic development, advancing the partnership between the city and the state, building community, and improving the quality of life in the city.
He has helped other members of the CCM to enact legislation at the state level to diversify local revenue, enable greater sharing of regional services among cities and towns, and contain costs through mandate relief.
Executive Director of the CCM, Joe DeLong, commented that this year is an important one with regards to the relationships between the leaders of the state and its local governments. DeLong says it is fortunate that O’Leary will be leading the organization at such a time as he is well respected at both the local and state levels, and help bring about a consensus on the issues that will be discussed during the session of the 2018 General Assembly.
The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities is the largest, nonpartisan organization in the state. Municipal leaders come from all over the state of Connecticut to represent a total of 166 municipalities.
